Line & Wash Journal Workshop with

    Terrie Shaw

Have a weekend full of fun designing your own personal Line and Wash Journal. Terrie will guide you through choosing and developing your own personal style, theme, design, techniques, colour mixing, negative painting, layout and balance. There will be lots of demos. You will be delightfully surprised how much journaling will help you with your composition, light, shadow, and provide you with a collection of references for your paintings. Line is simply sketching with a micron pen and then adding a wash with watercolour. If sketching with a pen is scary you can sketch with a pencil first. This workshop is for beginners to advanced students. There will be lots of demos.

Some of my journals can be found on my website hitp://www.terrieshaw.com

ACRYLIC MIXED MEDIA (Intermediate) with JUSTINA SMITH

I’ll be taking participants through the steps I use in my own painting process to show them how to incorporate the use of patterned papers, tissue-like papers, and colored acrylic inks into their own painting process. The use of papers and inks in addition to the paint can add a wonderful variety of detail, depth and interest to a painting. Mixing the mediums of paper, paint and ink can help solve problems of where and when to add detail and how much, and can easily add interest to large areas of negative space that might otherwise seem daunting and problematic. Adding paper and acrylic ink to a painting can also help ‘free up’ the participants painting style if they feel it needs a little loosening up. This workshop is perfect for artists willing to experiment and try new things. This particular approach to painting is very layered, so participants will have time to think of what their approach might be in each layer. This process lends itself well to both careful planning and spontaneity.

INTRODUCTION TO COLORED PENCIL with CRYSTAL DRIEDGER

Discover the joy and precision of coloured pencils as you learn more about this thoughtful and delicate medium and its peaceful, meditative qualities. Open to beginners (including those who claim they “can’t draw!) and for those looking to improve upon skills they already have.

Over this weekend workshop, you’ll learn how to create various surfaces and textures with coloured pencils and will start your own piece (you may use the instructor’s photograph for reference, or you can choose to bring your own). You will see demonstrations and there will be time to test and try different techniques before starting work on your final piece.
